Sandro Salvatori, presently a member of the Centre for Sudanese and Sub-Saharan Studies, was born in Mestre (Venezia) on September 1st, 1948 and is now living in Treviso. In 1972, Sandro received his degree in Archaeology and Art History of Ancient Near East from the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of Padua University with a thesis entitled ‘The Hittite sanctuary of Yazilikaya’. In 1975, he obtained his post-graduate degree in Prehistory and Protohistory from the National School of Archaeology in Rome. From 1974 to 1978, Sandro was Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Venezia, while in 1982 he taught Palaeoethnology at the same institution. From 1980 to 2011, he served as Archaeologist Director for the Superintendency for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Eastern Veneto in Venezia. Besides, in 1991 and 1992 he has been Director of the National Museum of Villa Pisani at Strà (Venezia)
