Septic meningitis and brain abscesses are relatively uncommon in horses. A case of suppurative encephalitis in a 9-month-old colt is described. Compulsive circling, head tilt, depression, ataxia and blindness were seen at neurological examination. Necropsy findings showed the presence of a focally extensive suppurative lesion in the right cerebral hemisphere. E. coli was isolated from the brain tissue samples.
