The paper discusses Joseph Stiglitz compelling criticism of globalization and the way it traces back to a shift in theory – the “free market mantra” – the failure of the economic policy imposed in the 1990s by international organization such as the IMF and the World Bank on the countries looking for their assistance. It argues that much of the failure in development can be read in light of a neglect of fundamental aspects of Keynesian theory.
