Technological innovations and new services may be considered as diffusion processes which are not stationary statistical time series due to life cycle effects. Riccati equation (1676-1754) may be thought as a foundation of the well-known Bass model (1969). The essay-paper is devoted to a discussion of this diffusion model with reference both to the univariate and multivariate extensions of the original one in order to cover the new relevant advances within strategic intervention, competition and space and time interaction.
